The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), John-Odigie Oyegun has said that the party is not apologetic over the anti-corruption war of the administration of Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari.

John Oyegun says APC is not apologetic over
the anti-corruption war of President
Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
According to Daily Trust, Oyegun stated this
on Monday, January 11, while addressing
state house correspondents after a two-hour
closed-door meeting with the National
Working Committee (NWC) of the party held
with the president at the State House in
Abuja.
The APC national chairman said no matter
whom corruption suspects were, President
Buhari had to fulfill the APC promise to
cleanse the country of the rot that had been
in the system in the last 16 years.
Oyegun in reaction to allegations that the
ongoing anti-corruption war is aimed at
further decimating the opposition Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), said APC is not
interested in a one-party state, adding that
the nation needs a constructive opposition,
The Sun reports.
He said: “The APC is not in any way
apologetic. We promised change, and there is
a lot of rot in the system. This must be
cleansed no matter whose ox is being gored.
Wherever the tree is going to fall, let it be.
We must get used to the fact that in the
process of cleansing this nation, there is
going to be a lot of bullet to bite. The APC
has not been in office at national level in the
last 10 16 years.
“So, the issue of whether somebody is PDP
or not PDP does not arise. We have a nation
to cleanse. The president has committed
himself to that, and we should take it
whatever way it comes. We’re not being
apologetic about that at all. It has nothing to
do with witch hunting. It just happened that
the dramatist personal of the period all
happened to be on one side of the political
divide.”
He expressed regret over the killings that
marred the supplementary gubernatorial
election in Bayelsa state which the APC lost.
The APC chairman on the purpose of the
meeting, said the NWC members briefed
Buhari on the state of the party, the current
challenges and the 78 elections that the APC
will be taking part in arising from court
actions following the national elections
while the president, in turn, briefed them on
the state of the nation.
In a related development, Doyin Okupe, the
senior special assistant on Public Affairs to
ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has accused
President Muhammadu Buhari of being
selective in his anti-corruption war.
This comes on the heels of the arrest of key
members of the opposition party,PDP with
the party’s spokesman Olisa Metuh being the
latest casualty.
According to Okupe, the arrest of Metuh and
the disregard of the rule of law by President
Buhari will see him lose respects from
Nigerians.
