President Muhammadu Buhari promised last
year that the insurgency will be completely
wiped out. Although there have been pockets
of attacks, the military insists Boko Haram
cannot cause mayhem.
Daily Post reports that General Gabriel
Olonisakin, the chief of defence staff said on
Tuesday, January 12 that “Boko Haram has
been degraded and they are not fit any longer
to carry out coordinated attacks but off course
suicide bombing is an issue we are still
battling with.”
He assured the people that the military would
take the issue of suicide bombing seriously
and end the activities in the country.
Brigadier General Mansur Mohammed Dan-Ali,
the minister of Defence said the president was
committed towards maintaining security in the
country.
He said that militant groups, Boko Haram and
Biafra agitators were criminal groups that
have “continued to pose serious threats to our
cherished democracy and the corporate
existence of Nigeria.”
“The need for a strong, virile and proactive air
force that can proudly defend our airspace
and make Nigeria a leading air power on the
continent cannot be overemphasised.
“Considering the ever-changing geostrategic
environment, it is important to note that the
Chief of Air Staff’s vision of repositioning the
NAF for effective, efficient and timely
employment of air power to meet the grand
strategy for National Security is a step in the
right direction,”
Sadiq Abubakar, the chief of air staff
commended the troops finding in the north
east and that the president would ensure that
the glory of the forced is restored.
